EV charging site selection in Tasmania

Tasmania runs at 6.1 chargers per 100 candidate host venues, which is above the 5.0 we measure nationally and ranks it 3rd of the 8 states we cover. Raw charger counts are a poor comparison because they mostly track population; normalising by the venues that could plausibly host a charger is what makes Tasmania and the other states comparable at all.

On unmet demand, 0.0% of the 165 analysis cells we score in Tasmania come out as charging blackspots — places where traffic, population and income all indicate demand and the nearest charger is still out of reach — against 1.3% nationally. That is a comparatively well-served result, which shifts the question here from finding an empty map to ranking good sites against each other.

Tasmania does not publish an open AADT (traffic count) dataset, so sites here are scored without a measured traffic term — ABS census demographics, venue density and existing charger coverage carry the model instead. We would rather state that than imply a precision we don't have. Everything else in the model is identical to the states that do publish counts.

Every Tasmania figure above is computed from ABS census data, OpenStreetMap venue and car-park geometry, Open Charge Map charger locations — the same sources, the same models and the same thresholds used in every other state. The methodology is published in full.
