What the Canberra data says
Canberra is comparatively well served. Across the 232 analysis cells within 25 km of the CBD, covering roughly 188,843 residents, only 1 cell scores as an outright charging blackspot — 54 existing chargers have covered most of the obvious demand. That makes site selection here a question of ranking good sites against each other rather than finding an empty map, which is exactly what the scoring model is for.
There are 690 candidate host venues in the same area against 54 existing chargers — about 7.8 chargers per 100 venues that could plausibly host one. The gap between those two numbers is the opportunity, and it is not evenly spread: the map shows exactly which end of town it sits in.
A note specific to ACT: there is no open government AADT (traffic count) dataset for this state, so Canberra sites are scored without a measured traffic term — demographics, venue density and charger coverage carry the model here. We would rather say that than quietly imply a precision we don't have.
How the scoring works
Every Canberra location is scored the same way as everywhere else in Australia: Getis-Ord Gi* hotspot statistics on demand, an OLS demand-gap regression, and a machine-learnt suitability model, all computed over open government data. Nothing is hand-tuned per city — which is what makes the comparison between Canberra and anywhere else meaningful.
