EV charging site selection in South Australia

South Australia runs at 3.6 chargers per 100 candidate host venues, which is below the 5.0 we measure nationally and ranks it 7th of the 8 states we cover. Raw charger counts are a poor comparison because they mostly track population; normalising by the venues that could plausibly host a charger is what makes South Australia and the other states comparable at all.

On unmet demand, 4.2% of the 826 analysis cells we score in South Australia come out as charging blackspots — places where traffic, population and income all indicate demand and the nearest charger is still out of reach — against 1.3% nationally. That is the more interesting half of the picture: it means there is proportionally more unserved demand here than in most of the country.

South Australia publishes an open annual average daily traffic (AADT) count dataset, so every score on this page carries a measured traffic term rather than an inferred one. That matters more than it sounds: passing traffic is the single strongest predictor of charger utilisation, and states without it are scored on demographics and venue density alone.
